New Art Piece

June 23, 2010

Here’s a new piece that I recently finished. It was a commission for a couple in Australia. If you aren’t familiar with the area, it’s Lennox Head.

The Music Scene

Here’s a great video for Blockhead‘s song “The Music Scene” with animation by Anthony Francisco Schepperd. I found it on Cartoon Brew this morning.

The Positive Effects of the Sun

June 15, 2010

Twas a long wet winter and spring here and my skin became green and mossy. The old timers said it was one of the wettest times they could ever remember, as they rung water from their beards and struggled with sight because of the bright light. It seems to be mostly over now and I’m putting away Elliot Smith and flipping out the Bird.

Yakima T-shirts

June 9, 2010

Here are a couple t-shirt designs I’ve done for Yakima car racks over the past two years. I’ve always had a good time working on projects for them. They once had me paint a 30′ x 60′ mural in their lobby.

This first design is the latest. They asked for a classic VW Bus with almost every rack feature they have available. They also wanted a northwest theme with Mt. Hood as a back drop.

This was the first tee design I did for them. They wanted something that resembled a classic beer label. Again, the northwest theme was important to them

Here’s a sketch I did while I was sitting at Sacred Craft a month or so ago. I feel that lately I’m rediscovering my sketchbook. I had neglected it for a while. Sketchbooks are so important to the creative process for me. All things good and bad find their way onto the pages of mine. I guess I look at it as a visual diary. Some of the images I post from my sketchbook on this blog are cherry picked. A lot of people wouldn’t understand the pages that are most interesting to me, because they are usually small thumbnail ideas. They can be rudimentary in their elements, but I understand their potential. Maybe I’ll post a few side by side comparisons of my thumbnails and the finished paintings. That could be fun.

I spent part of this last week in Portland, Oregon. I had a show at the Lizard Lounge. What a great turnout we had! The event info is listed on previous posts. The show will be on display for the month of June.

While I was in Portland, I had time to kill. There is plenty of interesting scenery to draw in Stumptown. So I busted out the sketchbook and went to it. This is a house in the neighborhood I was staying in. It had lots of character and I couldn’t resist.
